Names for a calendar project?

Day Dreame

well i am making an art calendar for school, for each month i will be drawing a girl that has 2 look like the month if that makes any sense. for example for summer i will be drawing a blonde girl with blue eyes, wearing really bright colors. I know this isnt exactly baby names but i thought maybe u could say what kind of girl you picture for each month? even if u could post photos of girls u picture that would be so great. to make this more of a baby name question, pretend you have 5 kids all named after months, genders are ur choice, what are they named? all help is appreciated!

Answer
I tried to give some details and use names that have meaning to the month. Hope this is helpful.

January- Girl with snowflakes on her eyelashes, wearing a white winter dress. Name could be Eira, which is Welsh for snow. Or you could call her Snow.

February- For Valentines, a girl in a red coat with a heart shaped box or something. Name could be Anna or Anne, or even Anabelle, which means lovable.

March- Spring starts this month, and things start to thaw. A girl with a small spring flower or a melting snowman and pretty red hair. You could call her Ginger, which means springlike or flourishing.

April- Rain, and a girl with an adorable umbrella and rain boots. You could call her April, but people would see that coming. The name Avril is French for April.

May- I think flowers are perfect for May. April showers bring may flowers. And for the name, how about something that means beautiful? Examples: Callie, Fiona, Belle, Naomi, Shana

June- a girl with a popsicle? Or... by the pool? I like the name Poppy, just because that's bright and sunny like summer. I know that's a little weird. But I'd avoid the classics like "Summer". Claire, Ella, Elaina, and Kelly mean bright, for more traditional names.

July- more summery stuff. Maybe something fourth of july-ish. Use aforementioned names.

August- same. I like the name Lena, which means "the bright one"

September- a girl with a backpack would be cute. Or an apple. Avalon is Welsh for apple tree.

October- a girl with a black cat and/or a pumpkin. Maybe wearing a witch hat. The name Samantha/ Sam would work, alluding to the show Bewitched where the main character is named Samantha and is a witch.

November- girl under a fall inspired tree, wearing a cute scarf. Shakira means thankful, which works with thanksgiving; if that's too exotic you could shorten it to Kira

December- I picture a girl in a really cute red winter jacket, maybe looking up at a pine tree, but if you don't want the Christmas reference, that's not necessary. She could be sledding. Her name could be Holly, for the plant, or Carol, for Christmas carol.

Hope this was helpful. Good luck.

What should I keep in my backpack at school ?

Roxy Marty

I got all the school stuff , I just wanna no what to keep in " girl emergencies " hahaha well yes so like pads , travel size perfume , chap stick , and what for make up ? Thank you lots <33

Answer
This is what I carried ever since I was in high school

-mirror
-wipes
-lip gloss /chap stick
-small deodorant- you never know, maybe you're stressed for the work, gym class, or you have a nerve rush for your presentation
-baby wipes- in case the deodorant fails you wipe before reapplying, or if you have a certain smell down there
- a pad-
eyeliner-
- blush-
-aspirin- headaches or certain pains
-allergy pills- if you need them
-nail filer- call me crazy but when i was doing manual projects and had a little crack on my nail it really bugged me, so i would file it for few seconds just to smooth it off and finish it at home
-hand sanitizer-
-small comb-
-small bottle of hair spray
hair ties and bobby pins
-body spray
-lotion

Any baby wearers out there?

kleedotcom

My son is just over 20lbs and a wiggly little worm.
The ring sling I love is no longer as happy for both of us. We are looking for alternatives. Anyone care to share what the they use? The only thing I am not really interested in trying are the metal-framed backpacks.

**We also do have a stroller for him. I am specifically looking for baby wearing options.

Thanks!
Stuck: I know what the options are (I do NOT mean that in a snotty way) I am looking for mommies who have actually used them and can provide personal experience info. Thank you thought :)
UBER: I actually sent you a private message asking you about this yesterday because I was sure you were a baby wearer. Feel free to delete.

Answer
HI! I have used several different carriers - Over the Shoulder Baby Holder (baby 1 and 2), unpadded Maya Wrap (baby 2), Kissasling (baby 2 and 3), padded maya wrap (baby 3 and 4), Moby Wrap (baby 1 and 4), Kozi Carrier -Mei Tai style (baby 2, 3, and 4), and Ergo (baby 4).
Once my kids got to be over 20 pounds, I prefer the padded Maya Wrap and the Ergo. I love my Ergo. It was a great investment. It is so much more comfortable than my Kozi and the baby always falls asleep. I recommend the Ergo for long periods of baby wearing and the Lightly Padded Maya Wrap for quick trips to the store, etc.
Good luck!

what did you/do you plan to buy for second baby?

kc

My husband and I have an 18 month old right now, and are currently entertaining the idea of having a baby #2 in the near future, although we aren't 100% sure when due to our sons special needs that we want to first make sure we have addressed fully. Anyways, we were shopping off my friends registry for her shower, and we were wondering what all we would need if we were to have another child soon. We already know we need the crib, highchair, extra carseat, etc...but was there anything from your first baby that you wished you had but didn't?
We know we want one of those cradle swings that go both ways, as our first one didn't have one, and we'd want a double stroller. We have nearly all the basics, a plain play gym, bouncer, jumperoo...we went fairly minimal though.
We have our own ideas on what we'd change or get, but just for fun looking for ideas from others on what they did, plan to do differently.

I never had a glider, although I thought maybe I wish I would have, did you guys use yours or did it sit empty?
Are side by side strollers or the tandem ones easier? Side by side seem so wide, but front to back look hard to maneuver:) Having the older one walk isn't an option for us, as he he never developed the walking reflux. (dr.s say he WILL walk, but probably not til about 3-5 yrs old... but instead of just knowing how, he will have to be taught, like teaching someone to relearn kind of)

We have a 3 BR house, 2 BR upstairs, 1 Down. Do we go downstairs and have each baby with their own room (s/he'd be in our room the first 4 months probably) or have them share a room when baby slept through the night? I feel weird being on a different level!

Answer
I'm expecting baby 2 at the beginning of July. Baby 1 will be 15 months old. Here is what I am asking for:
- more cloth diapers (not for everyone, but I CD with BumGenius diapers)
- an Ergo baby carrier (I have another one- Kelty Kids-, but really want an Ergo. Think I can do two carriers - one back and one front- if I had one) (http://www.ergobabycarrier.com/ )
- a hiking backpack carrier for Baby 1 - probably from MEC (Mountain Equipment Coop)
- a second crib (convertible) and dresser
- extra caddy attachments for my stroller
- some sort of sled that I can pull both babies in next winter

I'm also going to find out the sex with this baby. Baby 1 is a girl, so if baby 2 is a boy I may need a few clothes (though not many).

As for your question about strollers, I have the Phil and Ted's Sport stroller (http://philandteds.com/products/push/sport ) with the extra seat attachment (tandem). LOVE this stroller (it is so easy to maneuver), and I have heard nothing but good things about the second seat. I've attached the second seat to try it out and it seems just as easy as with only one seat attached.

One of my favorite things from Baby 1 was my diaper bag. I had a normal diaper bag at first, but hated it. Then I bought the Skip Hop Backpack diaper bag (http://www.skiphop.com/product/21010.html ) ...I can't imagine using another. It clips to your stroller if you don't want to carry it, which I think will be convenient with 2 babes.

Another thing I had for baby 1 and LOVE is my Pea Pod (http://www.kidco.com/main.taf?p=4,5 ). It's great for when you're outdoors (eg park, beach). I might get a second one for baby 2, or put them both in the same pod.

For sleep, if both babies sleep fairly well through the night I don't see why they can't share a room. That's my plan...if I have to turn my office into a bedroom, so be it, but I really don't want to! : )

As for the glider, I didn't have one, but I've considered getting one. I found that I sat with baby 1 in a comfy chair near the window a lot, but didn't need to rock. Might be nice to have one, especially the ones with the foot rest/ottoman.

Everyone has different needs/likes though. (You can probably tell we spend a lot of time outdoors, so we need things for that.) You probably have the best idea of what you want and need based on your experience with your first child!

Men with baby carrier?

chicabonit

My husband has no problem with wearing a baby carrier (with one of our babies in it of course) in public. He prefers type with the baby on the front because he can't see the baby when it is in the "backpack" style carrier. We have twins and went to a housewarming for a friend. We live in New York, so we took the subway - each of us with one of our boys in the carrier on the front. When we arrived, I noticed a few women snickering about something, but thought nothing of it. Later, my friend told me they were commenting about how "stupid" my husband looked with the baby carrier, and they are only for women?? Personally, I find it cute - and it is the most convenient - and safest - way to transport our children on the subway. What do you think of men wearing a baby carrier?

Answer
I think the people at the party need to grow up. Men are just a nurturing as women. We are always pushed into roles of violence and disregard. A carrier is a great way to bond with the baby. Not only is it safe as you mentioned, its hands free living. Why is it both parents created the baby, but only one is allowed to care for him/her? I hope you won't continue to surround yourself with these negative neanderthals. Congrats on the twins also.

Does anyone know what the most comfortable BABY backpack carrier is?

Lisa Lee

Answer
Mobywraps are great. They hold the baby in the correct position and helps protect their spine. It's really comfortable to wear as well as it goes over both shoulders.
http://www.mobywrap.com/

The Ergo is really great as well it holds baby in the same position as the Mobywrap but is a lot easier to get on without all the wrapping. It holds a baby up to 18kg (approx 40lbs). It's also really comfortable as it spreads the baby's weight over your hips and shoulders so your back doesn't feel the weight.

I 'll be flying with my 14 mnth. old?

adimt

Journey is of 24 hrs. She wont fit in a bassinet as she moves a lot in her sleep and we have never used a car seat for her in India. Beside a sling ..can anyone suggest any other options? I will be too tired to attach the sling throughout the journey. Even though I get a vacant seat beside my seat, how do I put her in that seat? Any helping answer is appreciated.
Thanks

Answer
I'm a former Flight Attendant and I now fly a lto with my own children on transatlantics about twice a year.

A squrimy toddler for such a long journey doesn't sound like a lot of fun. I have never seen a bassinet on an airplane that can hold such a big baby. My son was a year on Lufthansa once and that was their limit. I would still recommend sitting at the bulkhead but it's very unlikely you can use those "sky cots".

Babies under age 2 are allowed on laps for commercial reasons but they aren't protected if anything goes wrong. The only way to fly safely is to bring a car seat and use it on board.

Commercial air travel in general is safe so the statistical risk of anything going wrong is so low.

You can ask at check-in if it's possible to get a free seat next to you. Bringing the seat kind of solidifies your arguement and if you don't manage it, the seat can be gate checked with the stroller. I can tell you that the fuss of getting the car seat to the aircraft is worth the peace it gives me onboard. My children sleep much better in their familiar seat.

You have to check with your airline if your seat is approved to use onboard. A lot of it depends on the nationality of the carrier.

Call the airline and see how full the flight is.

There are a lot of gizmos to get carseats to the gate, including one that you can wear like a backpack and some where the baby can ride in the carseat like a stroller (and then you can check the big one).

http://www.onestepahead.com/product/osa/363756.html
(not endorsing these sites, just to show you..)

Decide what works for you. Some parents are able to bungee cord their car seats on to the stroller. I use a simple metal luggage cart with an extra bungee cord. Try it at home first!

I actually check the stroller and just use the car seat as a stroller. When mine were small, I also used a sling.

If you don't manage to get a seat, it's safer for the baby to be loose in your lap for take-off and landing. Some foreign airlines still use dangerous "belly belts" but they are banned on U.S. Canadian and German companies, among others.

If you don't bring the car seat but still get an extra seat, just make her comfortable with extra pillows and blankets. You may want to bring an inflatable pillow for this purpose. Strap her in but the adult seat belt will not adequately protect her.

Just some other odd tips;
-Bring about 1/3 more diapers than you think you'll need...at least! Put them in plastic bags, make at least two "packages" and wrap them with rubber bands to pack them more easily.
-Learn to change her standing up. Practice at home first! This will make it easier and faster, plus, you wont have to search around for baby changers. Toddlers hate to lie down in strange places and I use the handicapped lavs instead.
-Bring a change of clothes. Do the same trick with the plastic bags and rubber bands to save space in your bag.
-Bring a lot of snacks. Don't worry about security. If it's not allowed, they simply take it from you. I've never had this happen. They're more interested in liquids.
-Bring empty sippy cups to use onboard.
-If she still uses bottles, use the kind with disposable liners. Airplanes have bad sinks for washing bottles.
-Make sure the bottles don't have to be warmed. It's not necessary and pain to do while travelling in general.
-Consider ordering special meals. Kids usually hate the standard fare.
-Bring brand new toys to surprise them with onboard. These keep them occupied.
-If you opt to use a portable DVD player, make sure she's used to wearing the earphones, or can watch it without sound.
- Talk to her about security and that she has to put all her things on the belt. My kids are fine with flying but security can be intimitating for any child. This is an American site but you might still find it helpful;
http://www.tsa.gov/travelers/airtravel/children/index.shtm
-Please don't worry too much about ears. I rarely saw any problems when I worked and never had any with my own kids and I never did anything special.

Many flying tips say to make the child suck on something or drink during take-off and landing. This isn't accurate. ENT specialists say to have the child awake about an hour before landing (top of descent, landing or touch-down is too late). I can confirm that is when I saw problems at work. Take your child to the doctor in the last few days before you fly to make sure her ears are clear and infection-free. Heathy ears can handle pressurization changes.

If she falls asleep during take-off, there is no reason to wake her. Please don't worry!

It's a tough age to travel since they can move at this age, don't like to be restrained and their comprehension is limited. You can't reason with them. I remember the toddlers on my flight and then got to experience it myself later on. Just get plenty of sleep the night before you leave.

About eight years ago I wrote an article for a local newsletter. This is entirely non-commercial information and I have both the practical and professional experience of working on board airplanes. Feel free to visit;

Why do people prefer only cats or dogs?

PansLullab

Usually your a cat person or a dog person. But why? Why are cats better? Why are dogs better?

Answer
It's by how you were raised and the media. There was a movie out not long ago making dogs look good and cats bad. Since that movie, alot of kids have been saying they like dogs more and quoted that movie. I remember "All Dogs Go to Heaven" when I was little and it made alot of my friends lean towards dogs. Mix in if you're raised with a dog, and then you're pretty much set. I was raised with both but prefer cats. They're easier to care for, and I love how little they are and how they don't bark. I hung out with my friend's German Shepherd this weekend hoping to bond with it but all it did was chew on grass and didn't give me eye contact, or any signal to let me know it was listening to me. My cats however do make eye contact, roll over, purr, make funny noises, paw on me, and do other things that let's me know that they're acknowledging that I'm communicating to them. I like dogs for the sake of protection, but they drool and are sooo much work (and more expensive!). I like my cats more bc they are cuddlier, I can take my ragdoll in public in my backpack, and if I need to take a trip, I just leave enough food and water for the trip and save money on a sitter. My friend btw who just bought her purebred German Shepherd has about gone broke over that dog b/c of how expensive they are, not to mention it has ruined her carpet, already had to have surgery on its teeth, and has had to give away her good furniture to me to store bc her dog will ruin it. She also has to have a baby gate put up to keep the dog out of areas and it's just so much of a hassle. She is looking into paying for an obedience school on top of those expenses! She can't hang out as much anymore either bc as soon as she gets outta work she's gotta rush home to walk the dog before it urinates on her carpet. It's caused so much stress and anxiety for her and this has deterred me from getting a dog. I like that after work that I can go out for drinks with friends, hang out, etc. bc I don't have to rush to drive home in traffic to go walk my cat. She can walk herself :) And the money I save by having a cat I can use towards other fun purchases whereas my friend is broke from her dog's expenses (you can also get fined for them making noise in some areas). As for protection....well I have a gun, which will do more damage to a criminal than a barking dog anyways (cause most dogs will not attack unless specially trained to do so).

What is the best double stroller out there?

What is the best double stroller out of these options::::

Phil & Teds
Baby Jogger City Select Double
Kolcraft Contours
Graco DuoGlider

Any reviews?

Answer
Most definitely the Baby Jogger City Select! I have one myself and I love it for several reasons

1. Can be used as double, or single when one gets too big for it (and then back again if you have another!
2. the option of the bassinet casing for a seat, which later converts back, also love the carseat adapters... very easy to use and remove.
3. Super easy to fold up, and fold FLAT. All in one simple motion
4. Lots of storage options. The storage area underneath expands, and the handlebars have lots of accessory options, including full size backpacks. And, they don't tip even when you have a lot of weight on the handle bars.
5. Very maneuverable. I live in Boston with legendarily uneven sidewalks. I can get around just fine, and without too much bouncing.
6. Accessories: a self leveling drink holder (you have no idea how great that is on hilly roads). Storage cover- compact enough to use as carry-on on international flights. Belly bar- instead of food tray (also available) the belly bar gives something for kids to grab onto and allows them to lean out more. This was perfect for the zoo and watching the duckies go by.
7. Adorable! It does not look like any other stroller out there, yet has a nearly old world charm in the dark colors (I got black). I get questions all the time on it.
8. great if you baby wear- I wore my infant in a wrap while pushing my twins in the stroller. The handlebar was just the right height for me not to struggle.

Downsides? Can be costly to get new accessories, not the best 'jogger' but will do ok, not usually on sale.

Any advice on taking a 7 month old camping?

Flower84

Hi, we're due to go to the french alps region camping this July for 2 weeks. Our baby will be just over 7 months old then and will be the first time we've taken him camping. My partner is really keen to ge one of the really big tents with a few bedrooms and the inside with the carpet and awning etc.. and all the extras like kitchen style camping units and we'd be on a pitch with a hook up. So it would be pretty spacious camping. I think we would maybe be better getting a static caravan or chalet this year and waiting to do the tent thing next summer when he's well over a year and a half. I'm worried it may be hard to keep baby cool in a tent if the weather is quite hot.
Does anyone have any advice or has anyone had experience of taking a young baby camping like this?
Thanks guys!

Answer
7 months is actually a great time to take a little one camping... my son did his first camping trip at 5 months and it was perfect, we set up a pack and play outside under the trees near us and he loved looking at the redwoods moving in the breeze and watching the birds, squirrels and other animals. At that age, it's not like they're climbing out of the crib, so a pack and play is a great sleeping solution too, if your baby isn't a good sleeper you may want to set up the pack and play or whatever sleeping arrangement you plan in advance. While tent camping, we packed along our jog stroller and used the infant cocoon for a bed for our daughter when she was 4 months. http://store.philandteds.com/phil-and-teds-cocoon-sport-explorer-classic-twin-hammerhead.pro
Don't forget sunblock and wide brimmed hats - start putting them on baby early because then they'll be more apt to keep them on. Dressing in layers is always key. Our little ones went everywhere in a baby backpack with a canopy to shade them, similar to http://www.kelty.com/p-281-fc-30.aspx?category=kids and my DH and I would take turns carrying the little one and carrying a backpack with supplies/our stuff on day hikes. Go on a couple hikes around home so the baby is accustomed to the carrier. If you're breastfeeding, food shouldn't be a problem and even if you're not, a kitchen will make it easier to prepare formula.

Actually, next summer will be the trying one... your little one will be toddling everywhere and not have the vocabulary/discipline to know boundaries.

Can you imagine? Boston, MA and Burlington VT getting hit by missiles, and the US government did nothing?

Q. After 60 years of fighting for their own lives against baby-killing, anti-Semitic, genocidal lunatics, Israel is still considered illegitimate by much of the world, and in particular by a large percentage of the American Left. What sort of anti-Semitism does it take to watch a Tel Aviv pizza parlor destroyed by a suicidal terrorist with a backpack full of explosives, nails and rat poison, and side with the killer?

Answer
You've got to wonder don't you?

But ask this question and you'll get a bunch of uninformed answers. (Add to that there's usually the bigoted ones too.)

Israel did NOT invade the terroritories. Israel was ATTACKED by Jordan, Egypt, Syria & then I start to loose track of who else threated to wipe them into the sea in 1967 & made overt war actions like closing the straits. Israel did not STEAL anyone's land. Buying land with money is not stealing. Tel Aviv was sand dunes for petes sake. Israel was offered a country of only TA - and it was the ARABS that turned that down - no Jewish state at all allowed even that small.

Israel offered to GIVE the land gained right back in 1967-68 in exchange for peace agreements. The Arab nations didn't even agree to talk about it. They gave the three NOs, No Peace, No negotiations, No to recognizing Israel.

So if Canada invaded US threating to wipe us into the sea, refused to take back land afterward because it would mean leaving us alone, and then spent the next 40 years continuing the fight to WIPE us off the earth - you'd bet we'd defend ourselves from missiles.

Leftwing Jews can be just as misinformed as anyone else.

Apartheid was a racially based move to gain financially and socially by keeping one race suppressed. Israel has Arab full citizens. Israel does not gain from this situation, rather it costs them dearly in money & lives to secure the West Bank from attacking them. (The alternative is civilian lives lost in Tel Aviv & Jerusalem from the bombs that would be coming in.) The Arab position is to remove Israel. The S. A. blacks did not have an agenda that the whites had to protect from. Talk about bad analogies.

Gaza was turned over, and the borders secured only when Gazians started bombing Israel AS Israel was leaving Gaza, on that day. Israeli's voted in Kadima on the platform of setting up a PA state in the WB & Gaza. Too bad the Arabs refuse, because accepting a state would mean giving up the dream of ruling all of the Middle East.

Finding a solution is complicated and difficult there even when you're talking about politicians who want one. But leaving off so many facts and blaming Israel as though the Palestinians Arabs & their policies weren't a MAJOR part of the game, is insane.

----
The deir yassin site is propoganda that doesn't match the EYE WITNESS ARAB accounts on professional news reports such as PBS documentaries. Just like the Jenin maccacre was a complete fake (as proven by indepent org like Amnesty International.)

What are the top one or two baby items you couldn't live without the first month (or two)?

MsQuack

I got a limited budget and am struggling between a few different things to purchase now and some maybe a month or two after the baby is born. What are the top one or two... or three items that you couldnt live without? Some examples below...
Rocking chair, changing table, bouncer, baby rocker, baby swing, baby travel swing, baby gym, strap on to mommy baby carrying thing...... etc etc
lol well I own a baby bath, I probly should have asked this question sooner hehehe

Answer
I absolutely could not live without my BOPPY! (you only need that if you're breastfeeding though.) They are about $30 at Target or babies r us. As for all of the other things, babies don't really require many things. I used the changing table that was connected to my pack -n- play but I would recommend anything to where you don't always have to get down on the floor, it's very hard on your back to change 10-15 diapers a day on the floor. If you don't have a rocking chair that's okay, any old chair will be fine (you will probably rock your baby in whatever you are sitting in anyways).

I got two of those baby backpack things that strap the baby on, some people swear by them but I didn't find them very useful. If I wanted to add an extra 10-15 pounds onto me I'd just carry him...when I'm doing other things I put him down.

Good luck!! You'll be just fine.

I need a backpack!!!! Can anyone help?

Gift registry for 2nd baby (same gender)?

mtgcnv67

It almost doesn't even feel right to have a baby shower for our 2nd baby, because it's another boy. And I can't even seem to think of enough stuff that we would need to justify having one. This one will be born in winter, while our first was born in spring, but it's cold 11 months out of the year up here in the NW, and I feel like the clothes for our first son would be warm enough in December. Our first born has outgrown pretty much all of the stuff we need for the newborn except for a crib. Here's all I can think of:

Crib (contributions towards one)
Mattress for Crib
Double stroller (contributions towards one) <---unsure...are they a hassle?
Diapers
Bigger diaper bag (hopefully one big enough for both of the boys)
Decorations (It feels wrong to take down my 1st son's; his room would be so boring!)
Night bear
2nd Baby Monitor
Clothes (don't need many; maybe just a few sets of warmer clothes in smaller sizes)

Any suggestions of things that I could be forgetting? Anything that you didn't have but wish you did with your babies?
I'm not asking your opinion on whether to have the shower or not...I'm asking for suggestions on a gift registry. Thanks.

Answer
For the diaper bag, you may consider the okkatots backpack http://www.squidoo.com/okkatots-diaper-backpack-bag
but if that is too large you could consider some of the ones reviewed in this page http://www.squidoo.com/diaper-bags-for-twins-diaper-bags-for-two-kids

whats a good sling for a summer baby?

two july b

What's a good baby sling to use for a summer baby?
comfy and cool...i also have a 2 yr old so ill need something sturdy while im chasing my first kid. is the sling the same as a carrier? should i get one of each or one that can hold a newborn and an older baby?
thank you were about the same height but i weigh more..

Answer
the two most important things to ensure a good carrier/sling is: SIze of the Parent, and Weight of the Child. A great sling will be of no use if it doesn't fit.

price was not an issue to me so I can't remember what I paid for what, but you can find most of these on eBay if you are not picky regarding the color.

I have purchased (and been given) a total of maybe 6 slings and carriers. Heres my review of them
btw my Post partum weight /height is 126# 5'7"
(I will rank them at the end)

HOTSLING - I got size 3 (way too big for me) and my son hate it, always did, from 8 wks old, at 4 months old, he freakin hates it. My sister is very small (5'1" and about 110#, she bought size 1 and her son enjoyed the ride there). pros - very compact for travel, lightweight. cons - one adult arm is constrained so your are limited (can't fold laundry etc); and my son hated it but it was the wrong size and he fell too low.

MY BABY NEST (available at www.babiesrus.com online) - this uses the concept of a wrap around tie sling but you don't have to tie it. you just slip your arms though and wrap the waist belt around you and under your babies bum. (I got a medium, and even called the company rep and she told me she was the same size as me and she uses a medium). Again, I needed the small. My son sinks too low and it pulls on my shoulders and back. THIS IS PROBABLY THE BEST TYPE WRAP SLING THAT DOESN'T HAVE TO BE TIED OR WRAPPED EACH TIME. It's a pretty amazing little invention, just get a size smaller than you think you are b/c the spandex material is very very stretchy. Pros - comfortable for both mommy and baby if you get the right size, baby can be worn front, back and hip. cons - material stretches out after about 10 minutes of wearing. My husband also says it looks gay and he won't wear it.

SLEEPY WRAP - also a great wrap and my son actually likes this one. It's not that difficult to tie but does take some practice. The pros: comfortable for baby, can wear front/back/side, and one size fits all. Can accommodate toddlers as well as infants cons - also stretchy material, cant' really wear more than 30 min

SlingLing - nice and cool. some babies/parents don't feel secure with it

BABY BJORN - structured type carrier, pros - simple on/off. I can do it without other adult helping. my husband will wear it. baby worn in front but can face parent or outward. cons - not as comfortable for parent when baby weighs 20 pounds or more. can't wear on back. has metal in the clips so you have to take it off when you go through metal detectors at airport.

DEUTER - a great concept if you are over 5'7" tall. I am right on the borderline of this being comfortable. it's basically a backpack that has a seated compartment for an infant/up to maybe a 24month old. Pros - don't have to carry a separate diaper bag, Baby sits in more of a seat like position, good for Disneyland / going on long hikes where you don't want to carry a purse/other bags. Cons - not for short people, or even average height person, also remember it has a full back pack built in. This is a bit of overkill for just puttering around the house.

AND THE WINNER IS:
Ergo Baby Carrier.

Pros - baby can be worn front side and back, newborns (with special insert) and 3 yr olds fit comfortably in it. can purchase a separate small backpack to attatch to the carrier
very comfortable to both parent and baby

cons- it's kinda thick but that's what makes it comfortable. They were designed in hawaii and it's pretty hot there so I think it's ok for summer use.

some people complain about the price. I say better to buy one good one than go through 5 others before you find this one (but in all honesty the My Baby Nest one is awesome but I was just told the wrong size to buy - mis informed by customer service employee).

baby carriers vs. baby sling?

1andonly

whats the difference? which one is better on your back (less pulling on ur back). i used a carrier once when my son was 3 months just to walk around the store and my back was killing me after just after about 30 minutes. i plan on using either one almost everyday. so any thing that anyone knows about them or has experienced with them please share. thank you.

Answer
My mom had an old fashioned ring sling when I was a kid, and when I was a teen and babysitting I used that quite a bit when they got to be toddler age. Now, the slings today may be different, but the fact that it pulled on one shoulder more than the other was rather painful. There's a reason backpacks have two straps, and when you focus the pressure on one side then it does pull you to the side. It was nice, I'd use it again, but there's better.

I used a cheap carrier with my daughter and I would be hurting badly by the time I had walked around 10-20 minutes, so I definitely hear you there. But with my second I bought an Ergo. It's designed to be better on your back and on theirs. Also, it goes to 40lbs, can be used in a side-hip position, and a back position so I figured if I did want the baby in the side hip position then that wouldn't be an issue. My son absolutely loved it and I liked being able to kiss his head, have him look around, and basically have him in a very natural position on me. He was centered on me so there was no pulling to one side and I basically felt secure with him in that position. When he got to over 20lbs then wearing him for anything longer than 60 minutes would wear my back out, but still not bad. He's close to 30lbs now and I still wear him for 30-60 minutes when we go out, it's not that bad. He still loves it too, and he's over a year.

So that's another benefit I'd say. Mine, I've used with my 4 year old putting her on my back when she gets tired on hikes. The other carrier I had (the cheap one) only really worked until she was 9 months old, and slings have an even shorter lifespan from my experience (unless you use them as a toddler hip hugger...)

Baby carrier/sling..which is best?

Anyone know any good ones? My baby is 4 1/2 months, 13lbs 9oz. Don't want the backpack carrier things..

Answer
I've have the Moby Wrap. I really like it. It can easily support my toddler. It is easy to wrap when you get the hang of it. I certainly recommend it.

To the first poster --- bag style slings (like those made by Infantino) have been implicated in suffocation deaths because of the way the "hold" the baby --- they essentially force the baby into a chin-to-chest position (which cuts off oxygen supply) and obscure the parent's view. The recall/advisories on slings are specifically about bag slings. All parents should learn how to properly position a baby and not buy products that make it virtually impossible to do so.

Need review for the baby items...?

truecolor

Hi all...I am in my third trimester. I am going to register baby items at Babies r us this weekend. This is my first baby and I am not sure which items and brands should I pick is safe and comfortble for my baby and pricewise reasonable too. Please give me the review about the baby items and items I do need must. Thank you all.
Thank you all ....for sparing your precious time and giving me lots of information in detail. I am new in this country and first time mom. So, not much idea how to choose the right baby items. But your patience and support helped me alot to select the right things for my baby too instead of wasting money. I am going to print out all those information and check out those items in the store. Once again thank you.

Answer
I highly suggest taking a (relatively) new mom with you to register. My sister (who had a 2 year old at the time) went with me to register and she was a HUGE Help.

Here are a few suggestions.

There has been a lot of press recently about car seats so I'm sure you can google which ones are safest. The one that sticks in my head (b/c it's the one we have) is Graco Snug and ride. I would recomend getting a Snap and Go base so that you can turn the carseat into a stoller.

The crib is totally a matter of taste. We chose the Da Vinci Roxanne because I liked that it could transition into a toddler bed and I liked that it had a drawer under it.

If you get a changing table, make sure it has safety straps (so that baby can't roll off it). We choose the Da Vinci Roxanne changing table dresser combo.

Actually.... I still have my list that has prices and brands that I wanted. I can paste it here -- sorry.... it's going to be long.

Furniture
â Crib â (Da Vinci Roxanne with drawer and conversion kit) $260
â Mattress for Crib â
â Fitted sheets for crib (jersey knit) â 2-3 $10 each
â Ultimate Crib Sheet 2-3 (an all-in-one waterproof mattress protector/cover/sheet) $18 each
â Waterproof mattress pad/lap pad â 2-3 $10-20 each
â Dresser/ Changing table combo (Da Vinci Roxanne 3 drawer Baby Changer with safety strap) $240
â Changing pad & pad covers â 3 covers $10-15 each cover/$23 for pad
â Glider chair (Storkcraft sleigh glider â Cherry wood/beige cushion) $199
â Ottoman for glider (storkcraft) $70
â Hanging bookshelf (idea to hand shelf 12â to 18â below the ceiling around room to add lots of display and storage space)

Room Accessories
â Crib mobile (electric â the wind up ones stop to fast) Be careful what you pick out b/c all mobiles will not work with Da Vinci crib $40-$50
â Video Monitor (Summer infant Products: Day and Night Video handheld monitor) $170
â Baskets (for odds and ends â blankets, cloths, dirty laundry) $20+

Traveling With Baby
â Infant car seat with detachable base (MoTH recommends Graco Infant Snug-ride) $100 for seat $40 for x-tra base
â Stroller (Car seat stroller frame) with zip up blanket(???) MoTH recommends Snap and Go frame for stroller $60
â MoTH also recommends Bugaboo Frog â too expensive
â Baby jogger (MoTH recommends City Series â yikes expensive)
â Front carrier (bjorn - wrap is more comfy)
â Baby back pack (for when baby is older & no longer in bjorn Justine offered hers)
â Pack N Play $100

Playing With Baby
â Activity gym $40
â Bouncy Seat/exercauser (Baby Bjorn Baby Sitter) $100

Clothes
â Onesies â 3 packs $10 per 5-pack
â Long sleeved onesies
â Pjs with feet (zipper is easiest)
â Halo Newborn Sleepsack with swaddling feature $20 OR Swaddleme Fleece Wrap $10
â Sleepsack â 2 $20
â Socks â 6 pairs
â Terry cloth bibs â 3
â Caps for head â 4

Baby Hygiene
â Baby washcloths â 6 >$5
â Baby Bath Pad/chair thing â to put in tub â the baby tubs take up too much space $15
â Baby towels $15
â Baby Manicure set >$5
â Alcohol swabs >$5
â Q-tips >$5
â Cotton balls >$5
â Desitin >$10 ?
â Organizer for changing table $15 + - (Maybe either get a basket or hanging Koala organizer â maybe get both)
â Cloth diapers (for clean-up rags/changing table) â 4 $12 for pack of 12
â Diaper bag/baby sherpa backpack $25+ Look at the Koala Black Messenger back with pink accent/ Eddie Bauer and plain black messenger
â Diapers â donât get too many til know what he likes â we used pampers swadlers
â Vaseline & gauze pads
â Wet wipes
â Baby Tylenol
â Thermometer (rectal) >$10

Nursing and Feeding
â Nursing bras (no underwire) â 4
üBoppy
ü Breast pump (Medela Pump N Style)
â Receiving blankets â 2 $10-15 for a 4-pack
â Nursing pads (100% cotton â machine washable are better than disposable)
â 6 bottles (don't bother with bottle warmer)
â Silicone nipples, infant size â 2
â Pacifiers
â Bottle brush to clean
â Formula (Enfamil; Similac with Iron) -- nice to have on hand even if you plan on breastfeeding
â High chair â get the booster seat with tray that you attach to chair â takes us less space. Also suggested by MoTHs â and all plastic or wood/ NO cloth. $15-$25

Do you care what kind of diaper bag you carry and are you willing to spend a lot for something?

KandCsMomm

I have a diaper clutch for our 2 YO. All she needs to go out is a diaper or two wipes and a snack so I dont carry a bag for her. Occassionally I will use my one Coach tote that is coated cotton; it's a bit more spring/summer and I can hold tons in it for longer days out. But my clutch is a PPB Cake Clutch my hubby got for me last year. I think it was like $100. However it is also a purse. In the fall/winter mostly it is my purse as well as her bag (when shes not with me I take her stuff out and just use it for me). If you didnt know who made it and everything you'd NEVER guess it was a diaper clutch. it's black french cut velvet and tweed underneath. I am Due in dec. and want the bigger ba (trying to decide between the society satchel and cosmopolitan carryall if you have one to give me a review)! ANyway I am leaning toward the cosmopolitan one because it can TOTALLY be a handbag after the fact. And I would prob get it in black also. THe other style is more distinctly a baby bag and is an odd shape for a purse. These bags run about $325-$350 depending which style. To me I went through 4 $50-60 diaper bags in the first year our daughter was born because they kept ripping or they werent as functional as they originally seemed. ANd they are NOTHING I could ever use as a purse. I breastfeed so only need it for my stuff diapers, snack and a change of clothes. ANd I take exceptional care of things so it's not goin to be "runied" by using it for baby. I am just wondering if any other moms (given you are/were able to spend the money) would do so on a really goreous bag that can double as a handbag ect. Or what is the max you'd spend on a bag? I mean I cant see any woman turning it down if someone offered it to them; but i know that some women even if they had/have the money still wouldnt spend it. I LOVE bags in general and since I use the diaper bag as my bag then I want something I LOVE to carry. Before baby I would spend that much on my own bags; so being the only bag I carry I find no reason not tp spend it now.
if you look at the Cake collection not the orignial the 2 styles the cosmo clutch and carryall look very much like handbags. I agree the original collection with silk fab. looks like a diaper bag; but if you look at the Cake collection spec. then no they dont.

Answer
If I had the money for a large Coach tote, I would totally buy it. But, I have a really nice camouflage diaper dude from Nordstrom. It was a gift for my baby shower. It is less like a porse and more like a backpack, but I love it, and my husband doesn't mind carrying it either. I only have one boy and another boy on the way, so it helps that the diaper bag is very masculine. But, yes, I'd pay the money if I could afford a $300-400 bag!

Suggestions for a baby/toddler backpack?

Silly Momm

My husband and I are planning on doing some camping/backpacking once the weather warms up (it's still snowing where we live and we're beginning to wonder what Spring is) and we are in need of a baby/toddler backpack. My son is 10 months old and weighs in at a nice, healthy 35 pounds so an INFANT carrier is out of the question. He is much to heavy for those. I am referring to the ones with a large frame that carry ~50 pounds or more. I have no idea what names are good and reliable and research I've done hasn't turned up very good answers. Anyone with a suggestion, please let me hear it! Thanks!

Answer
We have a Kelty Kids backpack. It is wonderful. It is quite comfortable to wear, easy to put on and my son loves being in it (he's 14 months and around 25-30lbs). We camp and it is a lifesaver --- we bought it to use in place of our Ergo carrier on long hikes/camping.

It is like this one:

We managed to find a gently used one on craiglist for about half of the new price.

how to wash a kelty baby backpack?

Answer
best bet is to wash by hand in cold water (in bath tub) using mild powdered soap or something like NikWax Tech Wash

Where do I find cute backpacks for middle school?

I am trying to find a cute backpack for middle school and I was hoping it would be maybe a baby blue or a pink but if it isn't thats okay

Answer
Nearly every department store these days have school backpacks, but to name a few besides the Mall in general, you can try Kohls, Walmart, Kmart, sporting goods stores, Dillards, Target, Sam's Club, COSCO, JC Penny, and many more I am sure. Nearly everywhere have them. You may also want to try Ross or Marshalls for good quality at a cheaper price.

Best Baby/Infant carrier for pluz size parent?

Sam's mom

Looking at a hiking-style framed backpack for when we go to Disneyworld in March. Have seen a few on Amazon (we live in Dubai), however, don't know how much 'give' the waist belt etc. has and neither of us are on the small side! H wears a XXXL tee, so is concerned that it will not fit. Any advice from those with experience in this area (unfortunately diet is not an option as there isn't long enough!).

Answer
I'm very plus sized. I have a sling...an "over the shoulder baby holder" to be exact. Very comfortable. You can order them online. To be more comfortable you should get the custom made size. I just got the Long one instead of the custom size and my sling could actually be bigger to fit me better but it still works and isn't uncomfortable (I wear a XXXL). there are tons of other brands out there too. I like slings so much better than carriers or backpacks (had both). You can sit the baby up, you can lay the baby down, The baby can face forward (just cross their legs indian style inside the sling), the baby can face your chest (let the legs dangle out), you can hold the baby on your hip, you can put the baby on your back...all with the same sling...and it can be used on toddlers too.

But, to be honest, you'd be much more comfortable using a rental stroller at the park than a carrier. I just looked it up...stroller rentals at Disney World are $10 a day for single passenger and $18 per day for double passenger strollers. You get a discount if you need to rent a stroller for more than one day. The rentals I have seen at parks are usually roomy and have a place to hold water bottles in the back for parents. You'd probably have to place the diaper bag in the stroller. The ones I saw at Six Flags looked different than traditional strollers....they were oval in shape, wide, low to the ground, with sides and a top and had bottle/cup holders in the back under the push handle. Not sure what Disney's strollers look like. Have fun.

Now some of these names are silly and may already be taken. I just put down what came to mind. Good luck finding a good name.

What do you think about harness and leads for young children?

.

My son is two years old and does a really great job of sticking by us in public and holding our hand, but even the best of behaved small children can get overly excited and take off running from your side. So we got him a little harness and lead system. The harness is a little backpack that buckles around his torso and the lead is a 2 ft tail that comes off the back of the backpack. It's a cute little thing and he loves it, calling it his monkey pack, lol.

We have loved having this as it also makes it a ton more difficult for any sick child snatcher to take our son at a moments notice as well. Also if he happens to suddenly let go of our hand and tries to run off it keeps him from running too far ahead. Being 7 months pregnant and not being able to move as quickly, that has made it easier on my feet! Anyhow what do you think of using a harness and lead?
Just to add on I realize my son is not an animal, but for goodness sake it isn't inhumane! We have really used it only when we go to some place like the zoo or a crowded event. I'd rather be safe than sorry.

What about strollers? Aren't strollers used to keep your toddler from running away and keep them from getting snatched by someone? The only difference I see is that my 2 year old can now be free to walk some.
I would never misuse a harness and lead. One answerer here said she saw a woman jerk on the lead making her son fall over. I'd never do that! That's awful! My intent is to keep my child safe and to keep someone from snatching him in a crowded place (which can happen to any child no matter how closely you watch them).

Answer
When our 3rd child was 12 days old my husband left on the ship for over 6 months. (He was in the Navy.) Our oldest was not yet 5 and our daughter was a little over 2 years old.

I drove about 30 minutes to the next community over and went to a specialty store to purchase a harness for my daughter. Before the baby was born I could usually find her when she wandered off in the store but once the baby was born I could not abandon our baby who was likely in a cart to find her when she decided to wander off.

The harness I purchased was the kind with the straps on the front and had a leash.

There were numerous times when other mothers would stop me and ask me where I bought it. They were asking like they would desparately like to purchase one for their kids.

We all know that we live in a dangerous world today and that there are a lot of creeps out there and it doesn't take long for a child to disappear. So I say better safe than sorry!!!

Mommies..What gear do you recommend for the first year?

Bonini

I am 19 weeks pregnant with a baby girl (first baby!) and my husband and I are planning on registering next week. What items do you recommend as "must haves" or "helpful haves" for the first year?

Answer
Must haves:
Diapers
Wipes
Crib
Blankets
Clothes
Socks
Diaper Bag
Soap, Shampoo, Butt Cream
Bottles (if bottle feeding or planning on returning to work and pumping.)
Breast Pump (a good double electric one if you are planning on returning to work.)
Crib Sheet
Waterproof crib mattress pad
Dresser/Changing Table combo
Bibs
Spoons for feeding
Car Seat/Infant Carrier with extra base
Convertible Car Seat
Fingernail clippers or a baby grooming set

Helpful haves:
Swing
Bouncer Chair
Baby front pack carrier
Mobile
Toys
Baby Tub
Pack n Play with Bassinet
Crib set--the colors, etc. you like
Exersaucer/bouncer
toybox/toy storage
scrapbook/baby book
Books. Lots and lots of board books
Stroller
Overhead gym
Bows, cute girlie headbands
Girlie shoes

Things I never/rarely used:
Hiking backpack baby carrier
T-shirts and sweatshirts. Tiny babies do better in onesies because they don't ride up
Hooded towels and baby washcloths
Johnson's bathwash and lotion (perfume irritated my little ones' skin)
Boppy (although it is nice for the first couple weeks of breastfeeding, its too expensive)
Generic Diapers. Or Huggies. We returned these and got Pampers. They work better.

Pcs'ing to Hawaii with kids & newborn and Need help!?

SESw4

My husband has just gotten orders (as many people are getting right now) and we are moving to Hawaii. This will be our farthest PCS so far. We have 3 kids aged 9,8,and 3 and when we finally fly, we will also have an 8wk old baby too. I haven't flown in years, since about 2000, and never flown with kids. While Im not worried about our older ones, Im very concerned about flying with the newborn. We are out of Ft. Campbell KY so it will be a very long flight with a few layovers. Can someone tell me how to best prepare for this? I know there are many new guidelines when flying and such so I want to make sure I do everything right. Am I allowed to have baby bottles with water in them to make for easier mixing? Can I bring a playpen/bassinet combo (its in its own fold and store bag) as a checked bag under the plane? Am I allowed to bring the baby in a travel system stroller (carseat stroller combo)? What is the general wait time for housing to become available? We are on the list for a 4br. Wanted a 5br but we were told it would take much longer for that to become available so we went with a 4br instead. How are the schools there? Are they advanced, comparable, or behind to the main states?

Im sorry if this is a lot. I know literally nobody that has gone there with little ones. Only came home with new ones. ;) lol Im such a planner and want to make sure Im organized are ready for any scenario. Thanks in advance!!
Thank you for your answer. Unfortunately we dont have any specific details as far as airlines goes. Since we are military, we will have them pay for the tickets and everything rather than us pay and wait to get reimbursed. We dont get a say in where we can stop and room for the night or things like that. If we were making our own arrangements, we would be able to but since we aren't its not up to us. I tried looking at some of the airlines the Army uses, ie Delta, but saw no specific details as far as carry on liquids or amounts or anything. Since we are on a waitlist for on post housing, I was trying to establish some sort of general time frame so I know how much to pack clothes wise for my kids.

Sorry for any confusion, I should have clarified a bit better. I do appreciate your feedback though! Thanks!! :)

Hey, welcome to Hawaii, ok? You know, you gonna be fine, you gonna love it here Hawaii, sound like you come to Oahu, and that very good place to live, here some help for you, maybe set you mind at ease, ok? You gonna love beach, ocean and layback style of Hawaii, yeah?
Fly with kids: No problem, little one gonna be ok, just plan ahead for formula, TSA gonna let you bring some powder formula, and airline furnish you with bottle water for baby, and they heat it too, if you want, ok, so no problem there. Cannot depend that TSA will let you bring more than 4 ounces of liquid, but, each kid can bring up to 4 ounces too, ok? So divide up you formula, put in kid backpack, and that help out, ok? Also, bring some snacks for kids, cause airline food stinky, yeah? Here what I suggest, you gonna be come in warm weather, sound like, so dress alla kid light, with carry on jacket/hoodie cause sometime get cold on airplane, and back pack or roll around carry on for each kid as carry on, with snack, some game for each kid, and for 3 year old, coloring book, if they like that sort thing, something new kid not have before, ok? Now you got 9 and 8 year old, make them responsible for 3 year old, they do good job, cause they troopers, yeah? Make sure you check in luggage, but also in backpack they have change of undies, and maybe one change cloths, also, you carry all meds you need for all kids in you purse, ok? Put you own needed stuff in 8 and 9 year old back pack, cause they carry you stuff too, make it easier for you, yeah? Make sure 8 and 9 year old have all info they need to help you, they gonna be great help, ok? Now, you gonna need diapers, and wipes for baby, that ok, alla airline gonna have backup wipes, just make sure you have plenty wipes, ok? If you got game boy, or ipod or whateva for older kids to do while waiting, and try best you can to make just few layover, cause time weigh heavy on kids, yeah? Remember 4 ounces or less, put everything in clear baggie, and not too many thing in baggie, so lotta baggies, cause TSA like to see stuff in bags, yeah? And leave alla sharp object in check in bags, ok? Good idea to have drill, and dry run, hey you inna military, you know bout that, yeah?
Carseat stroller, no problem you just check it at door of plane when you get on, just make sure you have all stuff that you carry in stroller separate in bag or back pack, cause airline frown on lotta junk in stroller they check, ok? Anything like playpen in own bag can be checked long as it don't exceed weight, but in coach you gotta pay for extra bags, ok? Now, you gonna need help when you go to airport, so get someone to take you and help you with check in bags, get boarding passes ahead of time online, then check bags at curbside, that way you can go direct to security, yeah?
Try to arrange flite so that few deplane as possible, here just a suggest, fly outa Nashville, Tenn, take Southwest, non stop to Las Vegas, you can arrive Vegas at bout 4:30, before you leave tell airline you gonna need skycap to take you, kids, and luggage to Hawaiian at Terminal 2, They have non-stop at 6:15, to Honolulu, you arrive by 9:30 local time, now kids probly sleep most of way from Vegas, maybe you too, but you make it with minimum of down time, also, traveler aid VERY big in Vegas, specially for mom and kids of service personnel, in case you have trouble, Skycap take you and alla kid and luggage so no problem with that cause SWA not too swift at transfer of luggage, ok?, Hawaiian very kind to kids, and include pretty good(hey I say good not great, ok) meal at no extra cost, ok? Also have great service mans discount, too, yeah? Now you can do same thing on otha airline thru San Francisco, LA, or Seattle, but this I know work, cause did it myself, but that up to you, ok?
Schools, well you know we hear all kinda thing bout school here, but you know that most important part of kid education what happen at home, and you sound like kinda mommy that make sure kid get good stuff for education, ok? Hawaii spend a lotta money on school system, but you know all state rite now kinda have budget problems, so same hea Hawaii, but some great schools and great school teacher here too, so you be suprised, kids gonna do fine, ok?
Base housing, well I hear all kinda story bout that, but here the thing, you gonna get good house cause alla base housing I see here pretty nice, and you should have something within 1 month, in meantime, you can get nice place to stay off base, live out of suitcase, etc, you done before, cause you Army Wife, yeah? Hey, pretty soon, alla kid be talk just like me, YEAH? I just kid, I just old fat guy who too lazy to do anything otha than rite like I talk, ok? You gonna need famous kapaakid fried rice recipe, keep eye on YA, I give it again, you gonna love, ok?
Go army, and Peace and aloha to you from Hawaii!
Ok, I just read you update, you need to talk to you CTO/TMZ-c if u make it or them.

Baby sling?

Sky

I want to get a sling or backpack to carry my baby in, but I have no idea which one to get! I've seen some women carrying their babies in slings that look very simple, they look like just a long strip of fabric that they tie around the waist and over the shoulder. They look very comfortable. I'm trying to find out where to get that style but I can't find anything like it when I search. Does anyone know what I'm talking about? What are they called and where can I buy one?
Or, is there anyone in the know who can tell me which is the best sling for comfort and healthy positioning?
Wow thanks everyone! I think what I saw was the Moby or the Didymos. I was just using totally the wrong search terms! You are all so helpful I wish I could give everyone 10 points!

Answer
I have both a sling- which is a one piece of fabric that goes around you, almost like a tube- and a wrap, which is a long section of fabric that you wrap around yourself several times.

I LOVE my sling. I use a Hotsling and have been very happy with it. The one piece slings go off of your measurements, like what size shirt you have. You'll need to measure yourself for the best fit. I found a good price for one on eBay.

I also love my Moby wrap--which is what you described-- it's just one long piece of soft jersey type fabric that's basically one size fits most. I also bought it on eBay. I particularly liked it in the beginning as it's really adjustable.

I'll link to a site on baby wearing so you can see all the different kinds of slings/wraps and decide what works for you. I also made a baby sling from one of the patterns on the site. It turned out well, but I'm not crazy about the fabric I picked (too scratchy) so I don't often use it. Even if you know very little about sewing, the project is really easy.

I never use my bjorn, not ever. The slings are so much cuter and more convenient with all the ways you can wear them, plus they fold up to be very small. I get so many compliments on mine all the time. Just this morning I had my 8 month old in my Hotsling on my back while I was doing the dishes.

Get ready to get noticed! People are just tickled when they see a baby in a sling or wrap. I get compliments and nice comments all the time. I especially love when they're like, "Who thought of that?! They never had those when I had a baby!" I never say to them, well, slings/wraps have been around for thousands of years, it's hardly a new idea, it's just an old idea that we rediscovered, haha.
