have any of you ever gone on holiday alone with your baby?

slub

i'm considering doing so but obviously there's a lot to consider. my daughter's 7 months old now and i think i should at least stick to europe for now but i was sort of thinking about somewhere more adventurous when she's at least a year old and so doesn't need her formula milk anymore and will eat a wider variety of foods. somewhere in asia maybe. somewhere cheap, you know like backpacking, where the flights cost more than a month out there. i wouldn't want to go all that way just to be stuck in a resort with organised activities.
so my questions are: what are your experiences of this, where could i consider going, are there any places that have a (small) number of other mums doing this sort of thing so as i'm not stuck with a bunch of gap year students who want nothing to do with babies? any good websites? i need ideas
all i'm after is some different sights, smells, people, some sunshine, beaches maybe, places to explore. just without the crazy nights as obv i'd have to stay in with baby. and nowhere too dodgy since i'd be on my own. and somewhere they sell nappies and pasteurised, homogenised, refridgerated milk.

Answer
I personally would not go on vacation with my baby. My husband is deployed so I am pretty much alone with the baby too. I'd rather leave my newborn at home with someone for some days than taking him to another country when he is so young. If it is not necessary to travel, I don't even do so because that's very exhausting for the baby and you too. I think you should wait until she gets older because it is not easy to travel alone with a baby. She will not remember anything about the trip anyway. If it is important to you to travel, can't leave her at home with a relative? It would be better for you too because your vacation would be a real vacation and you could recharge your batteries. I don't think there is anything wrong with wanting to go on vacation for some days when you have a baby because mothers do need a break too so that we could continue raising our kids with more energy. But traveling alone with a baby is not easy especially when it comes to intercontinental flights...maybe it is better to go somewhere closer first instead of Asia.

"and somewhere they sell nappies and pasteurised, homogenised, refridgerated milk." That's pretty much everywhere so you don't have to worry about that.

How can I make my fiance want a baby again?

Jarolyn

I've been with my fiance for nearly 3 years, I am English and he is Australian and we met while I was backpacking on my gap year in Australia. We clicked from the first second we met, we moved in together after 2 weeks, we were both virgins when we met and we were each others first times, he proposed after 2 months and I said yes and after about 8 months he was desperate for a baby. At the time I was 18, planning on returning to England to go to university, and even though I loved the idea of having a baby I thought it logically wasn't the best timing. After about a year and a half I moved back to England to start university and we did the back and forth thing for a bit before deciding we'd better start saving for the future so decided to go for 12 months without seeing each other, but still talking and emailing daily. It started off pretty well as any long distance relationship does, but after about 5 months he started not keeping in contact as regularly, at the same time I had a bit of a mental brake-down. He was meant to be coming over to England this October for 3 years until I finished university and teachers training, then I was going to emigrate forever to Australia. But about 2 months ago he said that he doesn't think he can do it anymore, but he wants to stay together. I immediately said if he didn't come to England then it was over between us. He didn't ever actually make a decision because I changed my mind and decided I would do what ever it takes, but the fact that he even had to think about it hurt. Now we're a lot better, even though it has been about 10 months since I've seen him. I have decided that when I see him again I would like to try for a baby. This is much better timing than before and we are in a good financial position. The thing is he doesn't want a baby anymore, and besides that he says he is now unsure about getting married etc. Why now, he was so ready for it for the past 3 years, and now he's saying slow things down. It feels like we're going backwards. I still love him with all my heart and would do anything to keep him in my life and the thing is, he knows it. I'm hoping this will all get better when we've been 'together' properly as it has been 10 months. But in the mean time what should I do?
I know I said I would do anything to keep him in my life but a baby isn't really what that's about. I've always loved with kids and my mum is a nursary nurse so I've worked with them all my life. I've always wanted to be a mum as young as was possible and also sensible. I am thinking of moving to Australia after I finish my degree which is just one more year. I just really want to be a baby and I know I would be an amazing Mum as I already more or less raise my nieces more than my brothers do. I just can't understand why he's changed so much?

Answer
I agree with your boyfriend....having a baby right now is not the smartest idea.

Are you two living together? No.

Are you two living in the same country? No.

Are you two married? No.

Your boyfriend has every right to not want a baby right now and I don't think anything is going to change his mind.

It sounds kind of scary when you say "you'll do anything to keep him in your life". True love does not work that way. A relationship is a two-way street....you want to speed up and he wants to slow down. You're not aligned right now.....a baby is not the answer.

Any parenting advice please?

Q. I am 32 years old and 8 months pregnant with my first baby. I will be raising her on my own, and want to be the best mother I can be. I have read most of the books, researched a lot online, and still have many fears.

Any words of wisdom?

Answer
Congratulations! It seems you have done everything I have done when I had my son (now 5 y.o.) - books didn't help much⦠only gave me the basic idea on things. I did talk to parents online, there are message boards you can participate in and get advice from other parents.

Not everything that worked for others will work for you so it's best to keep an open mind, listen to your instincts and remember to rest physically and emotionally. If you can get any help of your friends to watch the baby so you could sleep - that will help you. I am still sleep deprived, five years later :).

If you happen to feel depressed after the delivery - a little baby blues are a normal thing as your hormones change, but if you feel the "blues" don't go away and starting to develop into a depression (lasting lets' say more than a month) - you may want to see a doctor and get her advice. I did get depressed after my son was born and it's hard caring for a baby when you're not feeling like doing anything at all...

People will tell you many, MANY things. Some will push their opinion onto you and some will make suggestions. It's best to keep an open mind. The way I looked at it - if this is something that my doctor tells me and I agree with it - that's the road I am going to take. If someone tells you smth outrageous and claims it works - use common sense and your best judgement. If ever in doubt - talking to other parents or a doctor [or both] usually provides enough useful information for you to make an educated decision.

Watch your budget - being a single mom can get tough financially. If you're planning on sending your child to day care - this can get a little pricey. What I learned from it - visit different day care centers, talk to teachers and ask questions. Walk through multiple rooms and review. If anything you don't like - move on to another center. And in my experience with childcare - you get what you pay for... Same goes for private babysitters and nannies â but I personally chose against hiring a nanny for safety reasons. I heard too many stories of abuse so I trust day care centers more because there is more structure there. And the day care center will be held accountable for every bump your child gets while in their care - so you know they will make sure to follow all the rules.

There's going to be lots of trial and error situations. As they say "it will get hard before it gets better" and with newborns it's very true. But even if you catch yourself thinking: "this will never end, I'll be stuck to this baby forever with no time for me" - no, you won't be. It's true that you will be glued to this child for the first year most likely and it will be hard to find time for yourself... But it's only until the baby starts walking, talking and etc... As the times goes by you will be getting your personal time back.

I agree with someone who said this earlier â take lots of pictures!

Wishing you the best of luck!

Romeo & Juliet one page summary help? Comparing Romeo and Juliet's one theme to today's society.?

Daivik

Hi Guys,
I need help writing one page summary for Romeo and Juliet play. In the 1st paragraph I am supposed to write about one theme from Act 1-Scene1-5 and in 2nd paragraph I am comparing that to todays society. For example, lack of marriage choices, generation gap, family feud, literacy any one of those or any other new ideas? I have to write at least 2 paragraphs. Can anybody help?

Answer
In R&J the feud between the families was the reason that they couldn't be together. A daughter's duty was to marry to benefit her family, and definitely not an enemy of her family. They were both teenagers and felt that, like most teenagers, they knew what was best. Sorry, but true. in R&J's time when people got married it was REALLY for life, whether you liked it or not, that was why they felt death was better than a life without each other, they just needed to clue each other in on their plan. Conversely, even though the marriages were engraved in stone, the morals weren't. Affairs were common, after the heir was produced, then discreet affairs were very common among the upper crust of society.

Comparing it to today's society... Every parent wants to see their child marry to someone who they feel is a "good" person. It doesn't have to be a feud between families in our society, but cultural differences, religious differences. Or something as simple as appearance. I remember when a guy came to pick up my baby girl (ok she was 16) but he was on a motorcycle, wearing leathers, had an earing and had tattoos..... I remember thinking OMG!! no way is he leaving with my baby. but he came to the door introduced himself to me, shook my hand. I told him she wasn't quite ready yet. I asked him if he wanted to sit down to wait. He was a wonderful young man. He apologized for showing up like he did and asked if he could use our bathroom and went out to get his backpack. When he came out he was in jeans and a Tshirt. He was in the drama club at school and rehearsals had gone late so he didn't have time to go home and change and get his car. They were going to take my daughters car and, if it was OK with me, leave his motorcycle at our house. He didn't want my daughter riding it because she didn't have the right clothes. This kid was an honor student, and graduated that year 1st in his class. that was in 2000. He just finished his residency and last July they gave me my first grandchild, a girl.

In today's society we tend to complain about who our kids like, about who they are dating if we don't like them... in most cases the more we complain the longer they will date that person. I tried really hard not to have an opinion until I talked to them.

Sometimes I think there needs to be a rule that you have to date, with no sex for at least a year, then if you are still interested in each other and are talking about marriage when you are older, then you should have to wait until at least one of you is out of college. Finances is the #! cause of divorce in this country. and getting a divorce is just too easy. If your commitment were stronger, or you had to wait longer and make that commitment stronger them maybe divorce wouldn't be the first solution that popped into people's mind at the first sign of trouble.

What is the most common middle school fashion for girls?

It is spring now and I don't know what to wear! Capris, pants, sandals, tank tops?! It is the beginnning of spring, about low 60's and a little breezy! What do I do?

Answer
sk83r-
Pants- skinny bullhead jeans, you can buy them at pacsun
Shirts-Famous Stars and Straps shirts, DC shirts, Etnies shirts, Billabong shirts, or any other skating shirts.
I most likely recommend CCS
Shoes- In- fallen, etnies, dc, nikes
out of style- VANS
Jackets- Any baggy jacket. Boys jackets are the best. Try shopping at " freestlye " if you have one located in your area

Preppy-
Pants- American Eagle Outfitters, their jeans are very very comfortable and will fit perfectly, or buy abercrombie skinny jeans
Shirts- any type of baby doll shirts, make sure to wear an undershirt underneath if it's too low, or else you will get teased. Aroepostale and American eagle aren't good places to shop for shirts, the collars get wrinkly and unattractive.

Shoes- In- ballet flats, sandals w/ backs, and skating shoes, believe it or not.
out of style- NEVER wear tacky high heels or any type of boots. that will give you a bad name at school.
Crocs will NEVER be even close to " koolio " so don't EVER wear them.

Jackets- Hollister, Abercrombie & Fitch, or Aroepostale
and also a " guy friend's " baggy jacket

!out of style!-

crocs!!
mudd
gap
FAMILY DOLLAR!
Lisa Frank
Go Diego Go backpacks etc.
any type of plastic shoe

In Style-
hollister co.
A&F
American Eagle
Aroepostale
Dora the explorer backpack etc.
Spongebob Squarepants accessories etc.

Fact- a lot of people in middle school think that dora the explorer and spongebob are DA BOMB.

and "boots" the monkey from dora the explorer

where online can i find expensive infant baby boy clothing?

B W

I am wanting to find a place to buy a bundle of clothing but for a great cost for my brother and sister in law who are expecting there first child.. if anyone can help it would be appreciated....

Answer
salvation army or good will store stuff is usually cheap and clean because infants grow so fast they do not have time to wear it out. Yard sales and flea markets too. tell you sister most insurances not give out free car seats. Also any of these places you can find baby essentials cheap too like changing table, crib high chair, swing, jolly jumper, baby backpack, and all she would need to buy at say walmart would be a crib mattress. they grow too fast too buy expensive and these places you will often find quality clothes from baby gap, old navy, carter, Oshkosh etc.
