Q. My son has a snuggli infant carrier and the weight limit is 25 lbs. I really like wearing him and I would like to keep doing it, but he just hit 23 lbs.

So, do you have any recommendations?

Answer
My Moby Wrap goes to 35lbs, but now that he is about 25lbs he is really starting to get too heavy for it when I do anything other then carry him around the house.

We use an Ergo when we are out and about, though its not the most attractive looking carrier, it gets the job done. It works a lot like a hiking backpack, to distribute the weight.

I had to give up the front carrier when he was around 10lbs because it killed my shoulders.

Is it safe to take my baby camping if there is a campfire?

Is it safe to take my 3 mo son to a cookout (campfire style)? I am worried about the smoke...
We would just be there a few hours to eat w family not 'camping'.

Answer
As long as you protect your baby from getting too cold, there is certainly no reason why you shouldn't take him camping. As far as the smoke is concerned, you won't want to have him sitting where the smoke is blowing in his face. But you wouldn't put yourself in that position either. I've been camping since I was a young baby. I've taken my children camping their whole lives. My pediatrician is a camper and we have shared camping/hiking stories since the babies were infants. He has no objection/concern over sharing the outdoors with young children. Use common sense. Keep your baby warm and dry and out of direct smoke and you'll both have a great time.
