Baby carrier my husband can use?

just a tho

Iâm looking for a carrier for my 5 month old (15 pounds) that will fit my husband. Heâs a fairly big guy â 5â9â and about 220 lbs (weâre both still trying to lose the baby weight!) I am thinking the Bjorn looks nice. I have an Ergo but it wonât fit, as far as I can tell (also I just donât care for the design of the Ergo; I hate how it clips behind the back). I also have a Moby Wrap but heâs unwilling to use that =) and weâre looking for something with more structure for a bigger baby.

I'm typing this with a baby sleeping on me in an Ergo; that strap thing drives me nuts, too. FWIW, I have had a lot of luck having the back clip together as low as possible -- which of course you can't reach putting it on unless the side straps are way let out. But if you do let the side straps way out each time, it's easy to do up at the back, and no big fuss to pull it snug again. Really an overrated carrier, but. That helped.

Don't get a Bjorn, at least not a regular Bjorn -- we liked it; it was a total cry-stopper in the early days and Daddy was a real fan of it -- but it's useless for a larger baby. Shoulder pain city.

(baby waking; will return)

They make a waist extension strap for the Ergo; I'd go that route. But here, Daddy chose a Maya Wrap after the Bjorn outgrew its usefulness.

A backpack frame carrier is often a nice choice for fathers. (Mine used one!) This sort of thing: http://www.mec.ca/Products/product_detail.jsp?PRODUCT%3C%3Eprd_id=845524441776409&FOLDER%3C%3Efolder_id=2534374302735239&bmUID=1203110191936

baby sling? which one works for you?

Q. i'm looking for one of those baby slings that straps on like a frontfacing backpack...i'm not sure of the name but i was wondering which one works and how much would i be looking to spend? child prob has to be able to hold head up right??

Answer
I have the Moby Wrap and the Ergo Carrier.

The Moby is great for newborns b/c they don't need to have good head/neck control to put them in it. It's very easy to use, versatile, and comfortable. They run about $40. I've been using it for the last 3 months with my baby and carry her around the house all day! I love it...

The Ergo can also be used for newborns without good head control but you'd have to purchase a newborn insert. The Ergo is $92 (www.myfavoritebabycarrier.com). It's VERY comfortable and easier to put baby in/out than the Moby. It's better than the Baby Bjorn b/c it doesn't have the baby hanging by its crotch which could be bad for the baby's spine. My sister has the Baby Bjorn and because it has a hard outer shell, it pinches and squeezes baby in certain places so it looks like it could be painful! The ergo is completely soft everywhere so it wouldn't be painful for your baby.
