Q. Is 15 months too young?
Answer
Use the world as your teaching device. Your childrens' minds are wide open to new sensations at a very very young age. The more stimuli they have, the more neural pathways are developed, and the more they will be equipped to learn. Expose them to as many sounds, smells, sights and tastes as possible. Let them touch new things under your watchful eye. Pay close attention to what interests them and show them how things work, talk to them. Tell them about things. Children learn at an unbelievable pace, especially if it is life experience, not just from childrens' books or games. In fact, those expensive 'learning' toys are far too limited to offer any real knowledge. The only true way to teach them eveything they can learn is to let them experience the zoo, the outdoors, animals, water, different foods, shapes, etc. 15 months is almost too late to start!!! What are you waiting for?
Parents who do a good job at helping their children develop their minds get results like this:
Swim classes start before 3 months for babies.
At 6 months they swim to their mothers.
At 18 months children who are read to every day can speak in complete sentences.
Plastic animal figurines are a great way to teach children about animals. By the age of 30 months, a child can recognize and name as many animals as you can fit into a backpack, including exotic animals and animals with compound names, if they are exposed to the actual animals in a setting like a zoo.
At 30 months a child is able to count past 20 using things like a stack of coasters you may have lying around the house.
At 30 months a child can identify the primary colors.
At 30 months a child can tell you if a traffic light is green, it is time to go; red is time to stop.
At 30 months a child can recognize directions like front, back, behind, on top of, and under.
At 30 months children can show you which shapes are round and which ones are square.
The frustration of the 'terrible two's" can be eliminated by using sign language to communicate with your child. Long before he or she is able to master spoken language, communication in sign language can help a child express his or her needs.
Speaking of languages, at 30 months, a child who is exposed to native speakers of different languages can correctly use words from several languages, such as english, spanish, portuguese, and french.
I know all these things from personal experience with ONE remarkable child whose parents take the time to gently nurture her in mind and body. She is never pressured to learn. Instead, she experiences new stimuli as something to be absorbed. She eats all natural foods in a balanced diet. Both parents worked until she was two years old. Now mom stays at home.

Answer
Toiletries: toothbrush, toothpaste, razor (not in carry on!), hairbrush/comb, hairdryer, hair products, shampoo, conditioner, makeup, makeup remover, prescription and over the counter meds, small first aid kid (antihistamines, pain reliever, band aids, pins, needle, diarrhea/nausea meds, bacterial ointment), tweezers. Suntan lotion. Sunglasses. Baby wipes in a large ziplock bag. Kitchen sized trash bag or right size cloth bag for laundry. Small bag of powdered laundry detergent for sink washing if necessary.
Clothing: underwear: bra and panties, socks or hosiery. You can wash clothes so don't take more than 5 days of these.
Clothing: 4-5 tops and 2-3 pants, 2-3 shorts, 2-3 skirts. One light jacket, rain poncho. Swimsuit and cover up. Nightshirt (2).
Shoes: wear most comfortable pair for walking in airport, take one dressy pair and one pair sandals if warm destination.
Money, travelers cheques, credit card, passport, visas if needed. Keys. Small bills for tips and snacks.
Backpack for day excursions. Pack it with snacks, books, pencil/pen, pad of paper, palm pilot or other electronic game, mp3 player, earplugs, phone, essential meds, one change of clothes, metal water bottle, hand sanitizer. If you plan to take a hat, wear it.
Leave extra room in your suitcase for souvenirs, and if you are going somewhere really great, don't take as many shirts because you can buy them there!
This list varies depending on where you are going and how you will get there. If by car, you can pack more. If by plane, pack a lot less (you have to pay for each piece of baggage). Take comfortable clothes that wash and wear well, and that you can mix and match. If you will be camping, take bug spray or wipes too.
